The Girls visited Aunt Cleora – June 20, 2019

We five girl cousins made the trip to Lee Summit to see our 94 year old aunt and made a whole day of it.  We enjoyed eating, visiting and laughing together.  It was so much fun.  Aunt Cleora told us when she was four years old she had bounded off a moving wagonload of hay onto the same rocks in the road today.  She wanted to go to the house rather than to the barn for unloading the hay; but Grandma Ethel dived to stop Cleora before she hit the rocks.  Grandma fell off as well and broke her arm.  The horses continued on to the barn and she remembered Grandma fretting over the blood over her forehead and face, all superficial; and demanding Grandma tend to herself rather than the child.  He put her to bed until he could get a saddle horse and get the doctor for Grandma’s arm.  She said Grandpa told Grandma to “leave that child bawling in the yard and get yourself inside,” because he realized Grandma was hurt far worse than she was.   Aunt Cleora asked us about her friends in Bolivar and all of our families.  Being together again made us all feel like we were young girls again.  We shared stories of each other’s parents and our memories of them.  It was a wonderful blessing to have that time together.
